Me: (knowing we don't have gum) Oh yeah? Hee hee. What kind? (Looking at her chewing) Wait, what are you chewing? (I am concerned now)
ChickenPie: (swallows) I swallowed it.
Me: What was it?
ChickenPie: Kid Gum.
Me: Where did you get it?
ChickenPie: My Nose.
(Teenager rolls on the floor convulsing with laughter.)

Super Powers

ChickenPie: I put super powers on that baby monster. [referring to
Sassafras]

Me: Oh yeah? What kind of super powers did you put on her?

ChickenPie: Pink.

Grandparents

We have had the pleasure of grandparents lately. With Grandma Pat and Grampa John living in Florida; and Meemee and Grumpy Grampy being out of the country recently, we were feeling the scarcity. But on Wednesday, Grampa John arrived for his annual trip north to see his friends. It used to be a ski trip, but with health issues for one or another of his friends, it's now a purely social trip. They watch basketball, have a couple beers, eat delicious food, and catch up on life. The plus side of this is that while he spends a long weekend with his friends, we get to see him for a couple days before and after. Grampa loves his grandchildren, they love him, and I really enjoy seeing my Dad too.

Additionally, ChickenPie and Meemee are out for one of their dates today. Meemee arrives and usually takes ChickenPie to the pet store (it's almost like a trip to the zoo, since we don't have a local zoo!) and out to eat. Today they are also including a trip to the playground since there's no snow or rain. (Yay, Spring!) ChickenPie LOVES her days out with Meemee.

I say I was feeling the scarcity, but actually my Mom came to visit just a few weeks ago as well. Maybe because when she left, so did Meemee and Grumpy Grampy. Grandma Pat loves to read stories to ChickenPie, and we have discovered that even at only 3 months old, Sassafras loves to hear stories too. She happily sits on your lap and listens to your voice while watching you turn pages in the book. But Grandma Pat is also up for a few games of pretend with ChickenPie, who, here, is pretending to be the mommy, while Grandma is the baby.

Preschooler Songs

ChickenPie, while sitting in the tub this morning, sang, "Old McDonald had a farm, and Bingo was his name-oh, E-I-O, E-I-O..." I giggled and giggled over the mix of the two songs. Almost-Three-Year-Olds are endlessly entertaining.

Electra Complex

ChickenPie says last night in the car: "Mommy, remember when you were a little girl, and I was a Mommy, and *I* got to sit next to Daddy in the car? *sigh* I love Daddy." Yes, Electra, I know you love your Daddy.

My sister replies to me, "Chicken Pie and her cousin should get together to discuss how upsetting it is to have another adult married to their true love..."

The day before Valentine's Day we were shopping at Target for a few things. ChickenPie had to go pee, so Daddy took her to the bathroom, and I kept shopping with Sassafras in tow. While looking for a hairbrush for ChickenPie's gift (we ended up with a 'Dora the Explorer' brush) I heard them coming back across the store. Tracy has this great way of locating me: he has a very loud click sound that he makes with his tongue against the roof of his mouth. It is louder than anyone else's tongue click that I've ever heard. So he does this until he gets close enough that I can yell out, "over here!" and we find each other. Hey, it works well for us.

Anyhow, ChickenPie must have thought this was a very cool thing, because she was trying to imitate him. She can't yet figure out how to make a tongue click sound, being only two, so she imitated it in word form. I hear her yelling out as loud as she can across Target, "COCK! COCK!" repeating again and again. Yeah, life is entertaining with a two year old!
